Sheriff Horace Porter

Horace Porter was the Sheriff in McConnelsville at the turn of the 1900’s. On September 7th, 1905 he was ambushed in the alley behind the Twin City Opera House. The local town lunatic shot Sheriff Porter in the back of the head four times with a .32 caliber handgun. This gun was used once again by Prosecuter Frank Parsons on Sunday October 3rd, 1909 when he took his own life in the Morgan County Courthouse. Could there be an attachment to this gun? The gun is now part of a display at the Morgan County Historical Society.

It is said that Sheriff Porter still makes his rounds in the alley behind the Opera House. Mediums have felt and heard the shooting and a recurring shadow man seen in the Opera House is believed to be Horace Porter.
